Skin lesions such as warts, epidermoid cysts or moles do not always have to be removed for medical indications, but many people choose to have them removed for aesthetic reasons. Indications for the removal of warts or epidermoid cysts may include unattractive appearance of the lesion, as well as its problematic location. Removal for medical indications concerns the lesion which looks suspicious and requires histological examination, or a risk of rupture of the skin lesion, such as a epidermoid cyst.
Skin lesions, such as epidermoid cysts, moles or warts, can be removed by excision. This simple surgical procedure is performed under topical anaesthesia and takes several minutes. The skin lesion is removed together with a small excess of the surrounding tissue. This allows for removal of the whole skin lesion. If in physician’s opinion, the lesion looks suspicious, it is subjected to histological examination under a microscope. Moles and warts can also be removed with a laser, directing a light beam at the lesion and producing the effect of photocoagulation. Laser removal of moles or warts takes a few minutes.
