HYMENOPLASTY

Hymenoplasty is a hymen reconstruction procedure performed under topical, or less commonly, general anaesthesia. The procedure is aimed at reconstructing the hymen and women decide to do it for several reasons. The motivation may be a desire to increase sexual satisfaction, some women decide to take such a step for their partner. Sometimes the procedure is performed after an accidental hymen break or after a rape.
Hymenoplasty is the answer to the question of how to repair the hymen and regain virginity. Hymenoplasty takes several dozen minutes. During the procedure the hymen is stretched and sutured in such a way that a small opening remains in the middle. The folds of the mucous membrane are sewn together with soluble threads. The procedure recreates the annular hymen. This gynaecological surgery procedure does not require hospitalisation, after a few hours of observation the Patient can go home.

PROCEDURE

During the consultation the expected effect is discussed. Before the procedure, topical anaesthesia is administered, and then a physician makes cuts with a laser knife, which ensures rapid recovery, and the newly formed membrane is merged with sutures.

EFFECT

Hymenoplasty results in restoration of virginity. This aesthetic gynaecology procedure is performed, among other things, so that bleeding appears after the hymen is broken during the first sexual intercourse with a new partner. The procedure allows the partner to feel a slight resistance when penetration begins, which can be a source of sexual satisfaction for both partners. Sometimes hymenoplasty is performed in victims of rape, also minors, if the rape took place before the woman or girl had the first sexual intercourse; then it allows for restoring the feeling of control over their own body and helps to improve self-esteem. The procedure is also performed for religious reasons, especially for those religions where virginity is a condition for marriage.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE?

Before hymenoplasty, the Patient needs to prepare for the procedure properly. First of all, she needs to consult a gynaecologist and perform a set of laboratory tests. They must exclude such health problems, as anaemia, blood clotting disorders or viral infections. The package of necessary tests includes the following parameters: – a blood count

– fasting glucose level

– clotting parameters: APTT, PT, fibrinogen

– electrolyte (sodium, potassium) levels

– HBS, HCV and HIV antigen

– vaginal cultures

RECOVERY

After hymenoplasty, the Patient needs recovery. For a few days after the procedure, the woman must lead a frugal lifestyle, avoiding physical activity. Proper hygiene of the intimate area is very important, as it minimises the risk of infection. It is necessary to wash the intimate area gently with soap and water – in the morning and evening – and each time after using the toilet. The use of sauna, swimming pool and bathing should be avoided. A follow-up visit is necessary seven days after the procedure to assess the healing rate of the treatment site. The sutures dissolve within 10-15 days. Sexual activity is possible not earlier than 6 weeks after the procedure, and the same recommendation applies to physical activity. Until the moment of the first sexual intercourse, the Patient should avoid using tampons during menstruation, because the reconstructed hymen may be accidentally broken.
